Here’s a quick video showing the track laying progress in the first bedroom. It took me a while to get the hang of track laying again as I haven’t done it in years. The track feeders are soldered to the underside of the rail joiners. I know..I know, I shouldn’t be doing it this way... Continue Reading →
The Railroad is alive!
The first loco moved over the Railroad today. I dug out Conrail GP15T 1650 and a Conrail caboose from storage. I hooked up the Command Station Station (CSS) to the track I have tacked down so far and used my Digitrax UT4 throttle to move it back and forth. Small steps!!
We have power!
I built a box to hold all the DCC components needed for the Railroad. The Command Station Station (CSS) will be located under the Railroad. The DB200+ booster on the right probably won’t be used. I mounted it just in case. I broke out a loco and tested it on a piece of flex track... Continue Reading →
Track Recycling
I’m back!! The corn is super tall here in Indiana and after 4 months away doing stuff around our new home, I’m ready to start laying track on the long completed benchwork. Before I can start I need to prep the hundreds of feet of Atlas code 100 flex track I had salvaged from the... Continue Reading →
The window covers are done
Because the benchwork crossed 4 windows, I needed to devise a way to hide the windows but still leave them somewhat accessible. I cut tempered hardboard panels to fit between the benchwork and the valance. The panels sit in front of the window trim mounding. The previous owners of the house had recently installed oak... Done! South bedroom benchwork
The bulk of the benchwork in the south bedroom is finished. The benchwork runs along 3 of the 4 walls. My treadmill (which I use daily) is up against the 4th wall. Next on the job list is dealing with the 4 windows in the 2 bedrooms. Stay tuned. North wall with single track shelf... Continue Reading →
South bedroom valance finished
The dreary weather has cooled off around here putting a pause on our outside cleanup work. I finished the valance today after installing the recently received LED strip lights. The valance fascia went up quickly and I then installed the first 24 x 96” section of benchwork that’s been ready to go for almost 2... Continue Reading →
South bedroom valance
Good day all. We’ve had some very nice late winter weather here in Rockville, so Jen and I have been working on cleaning up some of the brush and overgrowth on the east side of our property. I did make some progress on the valance in the south bedroom. The valance is finished. I installed... Continue Reading →
North bedroom benchwork is finished
I finished up the benchwork by installing four triangles of OSB at the three corners of the benchwork and at the east end of the south wall by the light switch. These triangles will give me a little more room for track curves at the corners and extend the tracks slightly along the south wall.... Continue Reading →
The closet is done
I finished the benchwork in the north bedroom closet. I chose to put the benchwork all the way to the back wall because it seemed to be the easiest way to go. From the back wall to the front of the benchwork is 42 inches, way too deep to access by the operators. I’ll probably... Continue Reading →
