Hi all. I hope you all had a good final quarter of 2023. It’s been a quite a while since my last post. I’m here to let you know all is well here in Rockville and I’m getting motivated to make more progress on the Railroad.
A couple of weeks ago, I fired up the Railroad and ran a JMRI generated train. it took me 1-1/2 hours to switch 12 cars. Good times! What I did find was that even though the Railroad had just been sitting there, the track had become dirty.
To help solve this issue, I am going to try a technique attempted years ago on the CWI. First, I’ll vacuum the track then clean the track and loco wheels with kerosene as I’ve done in the past. Then I’ll apply a microscopic layer of an antioxidant compound I have that was recommended by Joe Fugate of Model Railroad Hobbyist online magazine. When I tried this years ago, I applied way too much compound and it was a mess. I’ll report back on the results.
Coming soon…I’ve begun working on background building flats. Stay tuned.

Glad to hear you are back to the railroad.I have found that running trains keep the track clean, and letting is sit collects gunkAs for cleaning track, just ask 5 people and you will get 10 answers on the best way to clean track, so use what works for you.
