LED strip lights arrived today

The postal service delivered the 8 reels of 3528 SMD super bright LED strip lights today. These will be fastened to the underside of the valance behind the valance fascia. I will use 2 strips of lights next to each other. There is a total of 40 meters of lights here which should be more than enough to do the north bedroom valance. I’m going to dig out some power supplies that have been packed away since the move to Rockville.

  1. How did I miss this? A buddy pointed out then “zebra look” to me at a layout. Not understanding the term he pointed out that you could see the led reflection on the rail. Never noticed until he told me! He suggested mounting them on a 45 degree angle. Have not tried yet. RR looks like it will be alot of fun to operate!

    1. I have heard of this before. Doesn’t really bother me. I’m looking for the most light for the buck as my eyes aren’t getting any younger. I would think mounting the strips at a 45 degree angle (vs mine which are parallel to the tracks) would involve cutting the strips into shorter lengths and soldering wires to the solder pads. Also, I would think then that the LEDs would be directly visible to the operators. As you see in the photos, I’ve placed the strips very close to the backside of the valance fascia keeping the LEDs out of the operators direct line of sight. These things are blinding if you look directly at them !
      Thanks for visiting.

      1. 45 degrees like a slope towards the back wall. Like on piece of trim angled towards the ceiling. That way you get a light reflection off of your white ceiling. Always remember rule number 1. Get it your way. Hope to run it one day .

      2. Hey Jim. I get now what you’re saying. I place my strips the way I did so they would shine down to the edge of the benchwork and make reading paperwork by the operators easier without using the ceiling fan room light. The valance is around 5” narrower than the benchwork.
Also, the underside of the valance is blue as I wasn’t happy with it being white. The backside of the valance fascia is white though.
