The last piece of the north bedroom valance fascia was installed yesterday as were the remaining LED strip lights. I am very happy with the results. I had intended to paint the fascia black but I found that the previous owners of the house left a full gallon of a graphite color satin paint. This... Continue Reading →
My friend Clif’s blog

Fascia support
I’m having more 4x8 sheets of OSB delivered Thursday to continue the valance project. While I wait, I’ve installed supports for the valance fascia. The 3/4” plywood strips are screwed to the top of the existing installed valance. This will give me 2” of material to fasten the 6” strip of 3/16” tempered hardboard to.... Continue Reading →
Let me fascia-time ya
I’ve made a decision on the valance fascia height. The fascia will be 6” tall overall with 4” hanging below the valance OSB and 1-1/2” extending above. This puts the ‘window’ from the top of the benchwork to the bottom of the fascia at 20”. The bottom of the fascia is right at my eye... Continue Reading →
Night shots
Here are some shots using only the LED strip lights for lighting. I have less than 1/2 of the total strips done so far but the illumination is terrific. I’m quite happy.
Valance progress and lighting
I’ve been busy the last few days working on the valance. I painted the underside blue to better blend with the backdrop band. The look is much more appealing to me. Because I’ve run out of OSB, I’ve moved onto testing the LED strip lighting. The strips are stapled to the OSB because I don’t... Continue Reading →
First valance piece installed
I test mounted the first valance board to valance brackets today. The depth of the valance (19”) seems fine hanging over the 24” deep benchwork. The board is mounted with a machine screw, fender washer and nut (SWN). There will be two of these SWN setups per bracket. With just two total SWN setups currently... Continue Reading →
LED strip lights arrived today
The postal service delivered the 8 reels of 3528 SMD super bright LED strip lights today. These will be fastened to the underside of the valance behind the valance fascia. I will use 2 strips of lights next to each other. There is a total of 40 meters of lights here which should be more... Continue Reading →
First valance panels painted
Today, I cut the first 1/2” OSB panels to be used as the valance. I used OSB because I had it on hand, it’s rigid and it’s cheap. The panels are 19” by 48”. These will be fastened to the valance brackets with 10-24 x 1” machine screw, a fender washer and a nut. The... Continue Reading →
Today’s progress
I received the next box of valance shelf brackets from Amazon today. In the north bedroom. I installed the brackets on the walls. The means of valance installation across the windows still hasn’t been decided upon. North Wall. The cardboard test valance is clamped to the brackets. East Wall. The closet will house a large...
