The biggest yard on the railroad is the RW Yard at Fairfax. After running many JMRI generated trains, I realized I made a mistake on the RW Yard track layout. There are 4 tracks in the yard. From front to back, they were the departure track, track 1, track 2 & track 3. Track 3 of the yard was located against the wall. Reaching over the other tracks to uncouple cars was very cumbersome. Instead of ripping out the yard, I decided to change the arrival and departure tracks that feed into and out of the yard.
The new track layout is now track 1, track 2, track 3 and the departure track, front to back. A benefit of the change is that the new track 1 is 2 car lengths longer than the old track 3. Two extra cars doesn’t seem like a lot, but my new small railroad will take any additional cars where I can get them.
I have a short video showing the project…
